Wednesday - walked to a mall

I decided I would walk to "The Mercato" today. It's a shopping center not too far from the mall that we saw on our tour Monday evening. As I left, I took this picture from behind the hotel and parking garage. The pool and the fitness center (Bodylines) are located on the sixth floor of the parking garage.

Along the way, I encountered this cute little city park. It was surrounded by a relatively short cement wall and the gates were locked, but when I passed by on my way back to the hotel later, there were several school-aged boys playing football.

The final picture is a scene repeated ad nauseum all over the city: "under construction!" Most of the stuff you'll see on our blog didn't exist 5-10 years ago. They have a section of town on the other side of "Dubai Creek" that is called 'Old Dubai', and it's only about 20 years old. Everything else is brand-spanking, new by nearly all civilized standards. It's really kind of wild.
